Is Fall Chub Rub a Thing?

It’s officially fall here in Chicago, and I can’t be more excited. Fall is my favorite time of year because, well, let’s face it: Chub rub makes me dread the warmer, summer months—so much so that I countdown to the end of summer. I’ve tried many things to combat chub rub, and just because summer is over, it doesn’t necessarily mean the chafing will stop. I love wearing sweater dresses, like this one, during fall, which means chub rub still persists. However, I may have found the perfect solution so that I can go forth confidently wearing all the cute, fall dresses.

I recently discovered Thigh Society’s High Rise Anti-Chafing Slip Shorts, and they are a total game changer when it comes to avoiding chub rub. The anti-chafing shorts are very soft, light and breathable, plus they wick moisture away. I prefer wearing them in fall because most of my dresses for this season are longer in length, and the shorts don’t show through at all. Another added benefit to wearing these shorts is more coverage! In Chicago, the wind can get crazy, and when I am wearing loose skirts, well, it’s a recipe for disaster. So, I love that Thigh Society protect me and provide more coverage on windy days.

I also love that the brand has a focus on body positivity, talks about chub rub as a perfectly normal thing (which it is) and features women of different shapes and sizes on their website.

Now, onto the outfit, shall we? My ensemble is an entirely recycled look, meaning that everything I am wearing, came from my fall storage box in the closet. See this look (The Monochromatic Look), which incorporates this sweater dress. See this look (Top Knot), which showcases these taupe booties. Lastly, see this post (A Fashion-Filled Weekend With Meijer), showing where I got this shawl.

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2x in Thigh Society’s High Rise Anti-Chafing Slip Shorts, which is my usual size, and they fit perfectly! These shorts do stretch quite a bit, but they are true to size. They don’t ride up and didn’t give me any muffin top. They were actually so comfortable that I forgot I had them on.

This post is sponsored by Thigh Society. Marnie, the company’s founder and self-described Chief Anti-Chafing Crusader, started Thigh Society after she was tired of wearing biker shorts, constantly re-applying anti-chafing creams, and squeezing into tight shapewear after none of those methods worked. Thank you for supporting the brands that make Natalie in the City a possibility.

When I first spoke with the Eloquii team about their plans to open a brick and mortar store in Chicago, I was so excited, and I couldn’t wait for the store to open. I can’t believe that I can now take a stroll over to Eloquii whenever I want—WHICH WAS THREE TIMES LAST WEEK—and shop clothing that fits me so well and adds an edge to my wardrobe. Located in The Shops at North Bridge in downtown Chicago, the new store is so welcoming and the team makes every woman who walks through the door feel special.

The grand opening celebration was held last week, and it’s really one of the first time that Chicago-based plus size fashion bloggers were able to get together, meet each other, and shop Eloquii pieces in store. It was a great feeling to be around other plus size women who love the brand as much as I do.

I also got the opportunity to take my mom into the store when she was here visiting a week ago, and she was so impressed with the trendy looks and the overall vibes. She felt special, and all of the clothes she tried on fit her well—these are moments that plus size women hardly ever experience. I can’t stress enough how important it is to me to have a store that caters to my body type and makes me feel like a VIP instead of shooing me off to a dark corner where there are a select few plus size garments.

In honor of the store’s grand opening, I am wearing all Eloquii everything. I tucked this Cutout Shoulder Top With Bow Detail into the Pleated Midi Skirt—which also comes in green, yellow, and black—and topped the look off with a pair of lace up gray heels! I was a little apprehensive about rocking a pleated skirt because in the past, I have always felt that they were unflattering. But of course, since Eloquii knows how to dress the plus size figure to a T, the pleated skirt is very flattering and gorgeous! Take a risk!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 16 in the Pleated Midi Skirt, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly. I am wearing a size 18 in the Cutout Shoulder Top With Bow Detail, which is one size larger than my usual size. I recommend sizing up with tops that don’t have stretch in them like this one.

Let me start off this post by saying that I feel hot AF in this dress! I have a few garments like this one  in my closet that feel like pure magic as soon as I slip them on. Every girl needs that go-to dress or outfit for those fun nights out with her girls, and this is the newest addition to my party dress list.

However, I can’t help but notice that there is indeed similar qualities among the dresses I deem special enough for a night out: They all incorporate the lace-up trend and they are suede.

So let’s talk about this dress that was made to make you feel like a bombshell, shall we? This Forever And Ever Dress from Fashion Nova Curve has some of the cutest details. I love the cargo-style pockets on the front of the dress, and, of course, the lace up detailing through the center of the entire dress. This dress is super sexy, and it can be worn all by itself, or you could pair it with a duster coat for a more modest touch. Either way, This dress will be in rotation this fall for many occasions. The dress looks really short on the model, but even with my booty, the dress is a decent length, and it doesn’t feel too short.

SIZING INFO: I ordered a 2x in this dress, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly. The dress is very stretchy and forms to your figure. I would suggest ordering your usual size!

Hi lovelies! I’m so sorry I ghosted on y’all last week. I have had a hectic past two months, and for some reason, last week, I had to step away from everything just to keep my sanity. I took to Instagram to explain my situation on Friday via my Instastories. Basically, a lot has happened within the past couple of months, and I have had to focus a lot of the energy I usually put toward my blog on to other things like moving, finding a new apartment, and grieving an ending relationship. Not blogging or posting to Instagram allowed me to relax a little bit, but I also missed it, and I didn’t feel like myself completely.

So this week, I’m back, and I am here to stay (and slay). My first outfit post this week is about this Project Runway Romper from Fashion Nova Curve. You all know that I was a little hesitant to rock rompers at first, but this summer, I have turned over a new leaf, and I’m all about them. This romper, in particular, is extra special because of the detailing on the sleeves. I love how the left arm of the garment laces up and the grommet detailing continues throughout the top of the romper. It’s definitely an interesting take on the average romper, and it’s very comfortable. If you love this romper and you’re looking to score the same exact one, you can use my code “NATALIEXCRAIG” for 15% off your next Fashion Nova purchase.

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X, which is my usual size, and the romper fits perfectly! The garment does stretch a bit, and the material is very soft.

Grab your heels ladies, we’re getting girly on the blog today! But first, let me start with an update. If you haven’t noticed, my hair is blonder than usual—much blonder! I visited my fabulous hair stylist Anastasia Amico last week and we took my hair blonder than we ever have before. To be honest, it took me quite a bit of time to get used to my hair being this blonde, but I absolutely love it!

And now onto the outfit, shall we? I wore this look to brunch this weekend, but I imagine that this outfit would be perfect for a wedding, too! I’m sporting the new Society + Anne Lace Skirt, which also comes in black! The skirt has an elastic waistband with a hidden zipper and it also stretches for comfort. I really love the outer lace shell and how it’s a little longer than the inner lining. You can score 10% off this skirt by using the code “natinthecity” at checkout! To top off the look, I paired the skirt with this Chiffon Ruffle Blouse and an Eyelash Lace Push-Up Plunge Bra from Torrid. Check out the skirt on one of my best blogger friends, Bianca Karina!
SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 18/20 in the Society+ Anne Lace Skirt, which is a size larger than my usual size. The skirt lining stretches, but the outer shell does not. I would recommend, ordering one size larger than your usual.

Don’t you sleep better at night knowing that there is a form-fitting, sexy body con dress just waiting for you in your closet, and in a moment’s notice you can slip it on and feel like a total goddess? OK. This may be a little (understatement) dramatic, but I really cant express the satisfaction of having a dress that hugs every curve just right. And I’m back in my element, which is only wearing black and white. Hah! Embracing color was fun for a while, but I’m digging the black and white details of this dress.

This Enzo Knit Dress from Fashion Nova Curve is a simple, yet bold garment. I hear that plus size women should stay away from stripes—especially horizontal ones—but I’m saying, “F that!” The difference in the thickness of the lines creates an amazing silhouette, and creates a very flattering shape on a curvy figure. This dress is perfect for a dinner date, the club, or just for a day of running errands. But guess what? I also wear it to work? By pairing the dress with a chiffon-like button up dress, it makes the garment more modest, but also allows the stripes to peak through. And you ladies know that I am all about a versatile garment!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in the Enzo Knit Dress, which is my usual size. The dress fits perfectly, however, I wish it was a little tighter. After wearing the dress all day, the material stretches out and doesn’t fit as close to my body as it did at first. I would order one size smaller than usual.

I’ve been trying to incorporate more rompers into my wardrobe lately, especially because I used to think they were the devil and the most unflattering garments to sweep through fashion. As more and more plus size brands are taking the trend and translating it into different variations, I’m finding that I’m more open to sporting rompers.
This Chic Plus Palm Floral Romper is from City Chic. The brand also offers many of their styles at Macy’s, which is where this little number came from. You all know how much I’ve gravitated toward tropical floral prints this summer, and I’m stoked to have another addition. While they aren’t always the most functional, I love off the shoulder garments like this one. Exposed shoulders are so chic and sexy, but I just wish there was a better way to make the arms of the romper stay put. Does anyone have any magic tricks or tips? My comment section is open!
SIZING INFO: I’m wearing a size 16 in this romper, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly! The sleeves are a little tight, but have elastic in them to provide a little bit of stretch.

Get used to seeing stripes because I may be sporting different kinds of stripes in my next couple of blog posts! Yes, I have been obsessed with florals lately, but I am ready to branch out and try some more patterns that I may have neglected in the past. This summer, I have really turned up my approach to fashion quite a few notches. I’m pushing my own boundaries—and the ones people place around curvy women. And this Cabin Cruiser Striped set from Fashion Nova REALLY challenged me.

Not only did the set include a bralet as a top, but the pants have the widest leg I have ever seen. These styles are two things I would usually avoid at all costs before I made a little commitment to myself to try EVERYTHING. I put on the outfit, and to be honest, I wasn’t in love at first sight. In fact, I had to wear the outfit a couple of times around the house until I felt comfortable enough to wear it out. This outfit was a huge risk for me, however, I loved the way I felt in it when I finally wore it. Sure, the pants may make my thighs look bigger than they are, but I still felt sexy in all of the extra fabric! The slit down the middle of the wide leg definitely highlighted my legs and thighs even in the loose-fitted pants. Good call Fashion Nova!

What are your thoughts on stripes? Do you rock them or avoid them?

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 3X in this Cabin Cruiser Striped set, which is one size larger than my usual size. The top was pretty tight, and I only wear a 40C. The pants were really big and I could have probably ordered a 1X or 2X, but then the top would have been far too small. Oh well, this is still a great look, in my opinion!

When I am in need of a little escape from real life, I slip into this outfit. Although I can’t run off on a  tropical getaway at a moments notice, this outfit makes me feel like I’m on a beach or sipping on a Piña Colada poolside. And I guess that’s a good enough getaway from my typical work dress pants and blazer.

The top and pants are part of the Brittany Sunrise Tropical set from Fashion Nova Curve,
and they are the newest addition to my collection of tropical floral printed garments that I have been obsessively wearing since the start of the summer. I love the cut of the pants because I don’t have anything currently like them in my closet. I also like that depending on how you walk, they could look like a skirt or pants. I love the idea of the one shoulder crop top. However, the top only sizes up to an XL, which is two sizes too small for me. While I was able to fit into it, the garment was a little tight. But altogether, this was an adorable outfit that had me feeling exotic and sexy!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a 3X in the Brittany Sunrise Tropical pants, which is one size larger than my usual size. I am wearing an XL in the Brittany Sunrise Tropical top, which is two sizes smaller than my usual size, but the largest size that the top comes in. The top is too small, and doesn’t provide much coverage for my chest.

Plus Size Scrubs from Jaanuu

67% of U.S. women wear a size 14 or larger, but many brands neglect to offer plus size clothing to meet this rising demand. And when it comes to the medical apparel industry, the choices for more than 13 million healthcare professionals are even more scarce.
While I don’t work in the healthcare industry, I have received many questions from my readers about where they can find flattering, well-fitted scrubs. Many of the medical scrubs in the market today are baggy and ill-fitting—especially for plus size women. As brands start to become more inclusive of the plus size figure by offering fashion-forward choices for full-figured women, it only makes sense that clothing suppliers for different industries—such as healthcare—start following suit as well.
Jaanuu, a medical apparel and nursing scrubs brand, is doing just that. Since its inception, the brand has introduced contemporary, runway-inspired antimicrobial finished medical apparel and scrubs. But more recently, the brand is fulfilling its core desire to be body positive and inclusive—empowering doctors and nurses of all shapes and sizes—filling a major gap in the plus size scrubs for women market.
Today, Jaanuu launched the first-ever fashion-forward plus size scrubs, and their approach is truly unique. Their inclusive sizing includes petite and tall sizes, and each style was fitted on an actual plus-size fit model—whereas most brands often create plus sizes by using a size six fit model and simply scaling up.
Digging into every aspect of the garment helped Jaanuu understand how clothes fit on plus-size women in general. For instance, they realized they had to widen the sleeve opening on their best-selling top—the Tulip top—to allow for better ease of movement and comfort. Jaanuu also developed a new ponte fabric that flatters the plus size figure while also providing extra stretch and comfort. Now, plus size women have the option of wearing a classic scrub look with the added comfort of a premium stretch fabric.
To put their extensive work to the test, Jaanuu conducted a wear test by sending samples to plus-size nurses across the U.S. and asking them to give them honest feedback after wearing the scrubs to work. I reached out to the brand to see if I could get a first-look of the scrubs, feel the material, and try them on for myself. I am wearing the Curve Ponte Combo Topand the Curve Ponte Cargo Pant, and the Ponte material is UNREAL. These scrubs feel like a combination between sweats and leggings, yet they look so sharp and professional.
Tops start at $39 and include a variety of different styles including the Tulip top, Button Waist top, and Peplum top. Bottoms start at $42 and include a wide range of color and pattern designs to allow customers to mix and match their favorite styles. These styles can be found in sizes 1X-3X, and they will be sold at the same price point as the brand’s straight sizes—AWESOME!
SIZING INFO: I am wearing a 2X in the Curve Ponte Cargo Pant and the Curve Ponte Combo top, which is my usual size, and both garments fit perfectly!

Thank you to Jaanuu for partnering with me and sponsoring today’s post. Traditional scrubs haven’t been updated since the 1970s, but Jaanuu’s experienced team of designers have created contemporary designs that are reflective of current fashion trends and made with the industry’s first premium antimicrobial-finished medical apparel manufactured to withstand harsh hospital conditions. Thank you for supporting brands that make Natalie in the City possible.

As the days of summer are winding down, I am slowly mourning the adventurous take I have had on fashion this season. Bright colors, tropical florals, daring styles, and new trends have made more appearances in my looks than ever before. I really took some chances this summer and tried trends I told myself I never would. So I will miss summer for that reason, and also because of this Beneath the Flower Jumpsuit from Fashion Nova Curve.

I always shied away from jumpsuits because I felt that they weren’t flattering on a curvier figure, but the plunging neckline, sheer fabric, and pattern made me second guess one of my biggest fashion rules. I love how versatile this jumpsuit is. I could see myself wearing out while running errands or during a tropical vacation. Fashion Nova has been my best girlfriend when it comes to tropical floral prints and daring cuts. I couldn’t get enough of this plunging neckline feature. I have nothing like it in my closet, and I felt super sexy while wearing the jumpsuit.

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a 3X in the Beneath the Flower Jumpsuit, which is one size larger than my usual size. The fabric does not stretch at all and zips in the back right above the butt. So if you have big booty, like me, this jumpsuit may be a little hard to squeeze into. I could barely get it zipped in the back. However, the top of the blouse is pretty loose fitting, and my girls had a lot of room! If the brand sold a 4X, I would have probably ordered that size.

Plus Size Dresses

My Go-To Wedding Guest Dress

I always have to have one dress in my closet that is versatile and classic so that I can wear it many different ways and it won’t go out of style. I also want to be able to wear this dress to events as formal as a wedding, as casual as a Sunday brunch with my gal pals, and everything in between.
Is it possible? Yes, in fact, I can actually dress this plus size black floral party dress up and down as much as I like! Don’t believe it? Read along to see how I styled this dress for work, a wedding, a Sunday brunch, and even more!
I work in a business casual environment where you could find people wearing anything from pantsuits to jeans and a button up shirt, but I like to err on the side of business attire with a playful touch. I love pairing this plus size black floral party dress from Sydney’s Closet with a fun blazer, like the one I’m wearing with mesh sleeves. Pairing the dress with a business casual piece makes the garment practical for a day at the office.

When you get a wedding invite, what is the first thing that comes to mind? For many of my friends it’s, “WHAT DO I WEAR?!” The underlying rule is to never out dress the bride, but unless you show up in a wedding gown, I doubt that will happen! However, I still want to look stunning at this wedding—even though it isn’t my day. That’s another reason why I love this dress. While it’s not a body con dress, it’s still so flattering and hugs my curves in the right places. It’s fun, flirty, and classic, and I can totally wear the dress to a few weddings in a row by changing around my accessories, and no one would notice! The dress comes with a black wraparound shall, which you could wrap around your shoulders or tie around your neck!

And now onto my favorite activity of the weekend, BRUNCH! My go-to brunch spots vary from pancake houses (and sometimes McDonalds) to chic, French bakeries—in the words of my best friend, “My interests are broad, okay? And on this Sunday, I stopped by Maison Marcel in Chicago for some fresh croissants and a cappuccino. And since the café is definitely not a pancake house, I went full-on glam for it. I paired my Sydney’s Closet black floral party dress with a sequin blazer and some pearls.

While these are just three ways that I wear my plus size black floral party dress from Sydney’s Closet, there are many other ways I could wear it and a variety of events I could wear it to. Since it boasts a monochromatic color scheme and a versatile floral pattern, I could rock this dress at a company or family holiday party, a cocktail event, a fashion show, and to a black-tie event. For my high school and college girls out there, this dress could also make the perfect homecoming look!
SIZING INFO:Based on the sizing chart, I sized up two sizes to a size 22, because I know how formal dresses don’t have much stretch in them. However, I actually would have been fine with a size 20. The breast area of the dress has more than enough room for the ladies!
Thank you to Sydney’s Closet for partnering with me and sponsoring today’s post. Sydney’s Closet aims to “size up glamour” by offering on-trend plus size special occasion dresses in sizes 14-40! Phyllis Brasch Librach, President and Founder of the company, started Sydney’s Closet after learning how hard it was for plus size teenagers to find prom and homecoming dresses through her daughter’s very own experience. The reality is that one in every four high school girls and six out of 10 women in the U.S. wears a size 12 or larger. Over the last decade, the company has dressed tens and thousands of plus-size teens and women across the U.S. Thank you for supporting brands that make Natalie in the City possible
