Why don’t I have more photos like this? Ya know, since my blog is called “Natalie in the City.” The skyline should definitely be my backdrop more often. But sneaking onto rooftops or climbing up 8 flights of fire escape (in heels) isn’t always worth the great views waiting at the top. But I thought I’d do it for y’all for this look.

My entire look is from Charlotte Russe Plus, but what I love most about it are these wide-calf, faux suede, knee-high boots! If you have been keeping up with my last two posts (See: Combat Boots & Ankle Boots, I have expressed my devotion to finding the perfect wide-calf boots and wide-fit boots for fall and winter. Be sure to read on to the “SIZING INFO” part of this post to learn about the fit of these boots. I love getting jeggings from Charlotte Russe like these Refuge Hi-Rise Skinny Jeans because they are so comfortable. They practically feel like leggings, but still have that cool denim look with destruction, which is my all time fave. I wanted to keep this outfit on the edgy side so I scooped up this Corset-Detail Crew Neck and Studded Faux Leather moto Jacket. I have been dying to try the corset trend—without wearing an actual corset, because those are super bad for you—and this shirt with detachable cotton corset was perfect. This studded moto jacket was the perfect thing to finish off the look—and I was warm!

If you keep up with me on Instagram, I shared some pretty cool things that have been happening this week! I was featured in Refinery 29 in two pieces about dating while plus size! Check those out below:

I also wrote an article about 6 Truths I’m Facing as a Newly Single Plus Size Woman, and How I’m Changing the Narrative! You can check that out on Skorch Magazine!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 8 in the knee-high boots, which is a half size down from my usual size. The reason I sized down was because I have worn the size 9 boots from Charlotte Russe before and I felt that they were too big. When I sized down to a size 8, the calf is a little tighter, but I could get them up to my knees. I am wearing a size 16 in the skinny jeans, which is my usual size, and they fit perfectly. I am wearing a size 2x in both the corset detail crew neck and the moto jacket, which is my usual size, and they both fit perfectly!

So rarely ever could you describe my style as “grunge,” but I do borrow staple grunge pieces like military-inspired coats, combat boots, and boyfriend jeans. Well, I guess that covers my look for the day, guys! See ya next week.

JK. I wouldn’t just leave you with two sentences….

In my last post, I told y’all that I was on a quest to find the perfect wide-fit/wide-ankle/wide-calf boots for fall. So I’m back today to show off these gorgeous and super sexy Metal Heel Lace Up Booties! These boots do have a wide fit, and they also have quite the heel on them—4.5 inches, to be exact. If you don’t like walking in heels, I wouldn’t recommend these bad boys. Although the shoe has comfort pads for your feet since the heel is steep, which is really nice. I scored the boots and my entire outfit from Torrid! These Boyfriend Jeans with Ripped Destruction are perfect for this look. I don’t usually like boyfriend jeans because of the fit, but these ones looked amazing on my body, and hey, I’ll try anything once (or twice….or three times). And how adorable is this Insider Cropped Military Jacket? I’m quite obsessed with this piece, and I even wear it to work. I just love a versatile piece. I wanted to wear a simple top with this look, so I opted for this Crochet Inset Tank Top, which has a little bit of detail toward the top, but not too much that it would take away from the jacket.

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 16 in the boyfriend jeans, which is my usual size and the fit a little loose, but that is to be expected given that they are boyfriend jeans. I am wearing a size 2 in the cropped military jacket, which is my usual size and it fits perfectly! It should be noted that this jacket is not supposed to close or fasten in the front! So don’t fret if yours doesn’t cover your bust all the way! I am wearing a size 2 in the crochet inset tank top, which is my usual size and it fits perfectly. I am wearing a size 8 in the metal heel lace, which is a half size down from my usual size, and they fit perfectly. Torrid suggests sizing a whole size down in their shoes

I’m really excited for this week because I will be sharing my favorite fall boots with you all! From ankle boots to knee-highs, you’ll be getting a first look at some of Torrid’s most popular boots. And the best part is that all of them have a wide fit in both the shoe itself and the calf circumference.

Today, let’s start with these comfortable Gore Side Wedge Booties! I created this look with all neutral colors, but none of them being the same, which I love. I like being able to put together these different neutrals and tying them together with a pair of Ankle Skinny Jeans. This entire outfit, from the Satin Lace Tank Top to the Pointelle Cardigan, is from Torrid. Now, you all know how much I love fall because of the fashion, but Chicago just took a nose dive right into winter, which makes me super sad! Oh well, you can catch me in this cozy, cute fall look for the time being! But expect some more knee-high boots and warmer styles soon. Winter is coming!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 16 in the Ankle Skinny Jeans which is my usual size, and they fit perfectly! In the Gore Side Wedge Booties, I actually sized down to a size 8—which is a half size smaller than my usual—because of the wide fit. I am wearing a size 2X in the Satin Lace Tank Top and the Pointelle Cardigan, which fit perfectly and true to size!

This post is for all of the women who don’t feel sexy in their own skin. I just wanted to tell you that you aren’t alone. According to a recent Dove survey, 96% of the women they interviewed said they would not use the word “beautiful” to describe themselves. Let that sink in. And guess what? I’m willing to bet you that most of the women you idolize on social media as “goals,” also struggle with their self esteem and self perception from time to time.

It took me a while to realize this, even though I have observed how much women question themselves and how little credit they accept when compliments and praise are given pretty much my entire life. But I realize that society has taught us not to value ourselves, and that it’s a lot harder to find your value after years/decades of being taught you didn’t have any. It’s also hard to find beauty within yourself when you don’t live up to or look like the constant images of women shown in the media.

One of the main reasons I keep this blog up on a consistent basis is because I know that it empowers women across the world by showing them a different side of beauty. And while I may preach about confidence and self love, I struggle with self esteem and confidence, too. It’s important for you all to know that, too.

So in an effort to show you all another side of beauty, I decided to turn my usual Thursday outfit post up a notch by posing in this Curvy Couture Tulip Allover Lace Push Up. I’m also wearing this sheer Milan Shadow Striped Mesh Duster from Fashion to Figure, which is so sexy, but I can also pair it with jeans and a cute top for everyday wear! I have always known that fashion and clothes have played a huge role in my journey to finding self love. But it still amazes me how clothing can truly transform my mood and perception. I hope that you all find the same comfort and confidence in fashion that I do.

Love you ladies! XO

OKAY. I am a huge fan of sequins—always have been, always will be. And I love that sequins are making a strong come back for fall and the holiday season. However, I never really need an excuse to sport sequins.

I found this skirt at Marshall’s, and it’s actually from Express. I never really shop at Express because they don’t carry plus sizes in store, and that’s a big no-no in my book! The original skirt is sold out, however, I found a similar skirt like this black sequin one. This iridescent sequin skirt from Forever 21 Plus is also a killer! I paired the skirt with this gorgeous burgundy lace tank top from Torrid, and a waterfall cardigan. Oh and these gold heel boots? They are from Charlotte Russe, girl!

This outfit will be making an appearance in DARE Magazine‘s holiday issue, and I cannot wait to share it with you all!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing an XL in the Express skirt, which is two sizes smaller than my usual size, but the skirt stretches. I am wearing a size 9 in the wide-calf knee-high boots from Charlotte Russe, which is my usual size. However, the boots run a little large, so I would suggest ordering one size down. I am wearing a 2X in the waterfall cardigan and the Torrid tank top, which are my actual sizes, and they fit perfectly!

Photography by: Rorie Raimondi

Does any girl really enjoy her time of the month? Probably not, and I’m right there with them. I feel like I am being held back from having impeccable style when I’m on my period for many reasons. Usually, all I want to wear are loose sweaters, leggings, and UGG boots so I can be comfortable and not risk ruining any of my favorite garments. But when I get that burst of energy and motivation to style up a cool look, my monthly flow holds me back from that. I don’t wear a lot off white, but for some reason, I am always craving a good white pant or skirt during that time of the month. See my dilemma?

But Natalie, you’re wearing white pants right now, and aren’t you on your…………? Wouldn’t that be weird if y’all new my menstrual cycle as if I wrote posts differently during that time of the month? (WELL I GUESS YOU KNOW NOW. LOL) I recently started using The DivaCup, which has given me the freedom to be more like myself during my period. The DivaCup is a reusable, bell-shaped silicone menstrual cup that offers 12 hours of leak-free protection, which gives me confidence when I want to wear white while on my period! It’s clean, comfortable, and so convenient to use since I don’t have to remove or change it every couple of hours like the average pad or tampon. It doesn’t matter whether I’m at the office all day, hitting a yoga class at lunch, or dancing at the club all night, The DivaCup has me covered and keeps my clothes clean! See why I feel more confident wearing white now? (Stay tuned for an all white look soon because I’m feeling ambitious!)

Another thing that I really love about The DivaCup is that you can reuse it. Not only does this save me from buying tampons and pads every month, but it also completely eliminates waste! I know many millennials who are conscious of their footprint and the effects of waste on our planet. Well, using The DivaCup is one way to cut back on the amount of trash you produce. The average cost of menstrual care per year is more than $150, but The DivaCup only costs $39.99, and most DivaCups have a lifespan of up to one year. So you can use the money you save from not having to purchase pads and tampons every month to treat yourself to something nice—because YOU DESERVE IT!

The DivaCup is SO easy to use. I recommend visiting the user guide, but here are some quick tips to get you started and to keep you from dreading your monthly flow with DivaCup:

  • Read The DivaCup user guide
  • Insert The DivaCup and make sure it’s comfortable and secure!
  • Live carefree for up to 12 hours while The DivaCup works its magic.
  • Remove and empty The DivaCup at the end of the day.
  • Clean the cup using the DivaWash, a special PH-balanced soap made specifically for The DivaCup.
  • At the end of your cycle, wash The DivaCup and store in it’s cute little bag until your next period!

While you can find The DivaCup at many retailers, I picked mine up at Walgreens in the feminine care section. Check out The DivaCup store locator to find out where you can pick up your new best friend! Want to learn how to use The DivaCup? Hover over the image below to shop for The DivaCup at Walgreens, no matter where you are!

Hi lovelies! I have some excited news for my fashionistas in Chicago! I will be a panelist and attendee at the first-ever DREAM BIG: CurvyGirl Fashion & Beauty Conference, hosted at Morgan’s on Fulton (950 W. Fulton St.) on October 21 from 10 am-6 pm. I’ve been dying for the opportunity to go to Full Figured Fashion Week, The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo, and Curvy Con, but all of those festivities are in Atlanta and New York. Luckily, the CurvyGirl Fashion & Beauty Conference will be here in Chicago, and I can’t wait to attend.

DREAM BIG is your opportunity to get educated, empowered, and connected to build network relationships and turn your biggest dream to reality. It is the Midwest’s first conference established to build a diverse community of curvy women who are fashion and beauty enthusiasts. Many top bloggers and influencers of the Midwest have collaborated to share their stories and the keys to building their own brand empire. While connecting our curvy community, this conference allows us to unite and give back to our local communities through our talents.

Take part in the festivities and come hang out with me and other Chicago bloggers! Purchase your tickets here: DREAM BIG: CurvyGirl Fashion & Beauty Conference Tickets. You can also use the code “DREAM17” for 20% off your tickets on October 13-17!

And now, onto this outfit, shall we? I found this color-blocked dress in the crowded racks of Marshall’s. The white detail on the bottom is what caught my eye. Could it be a separate piece of fabric? A polyester slip underneath the black dress? These are questions I pondered as I struggled to untangle the hanger from the clothing rack. I was surprised to see that the white detail was the opposite of my first two guesses, but I loved that it made me wonder. I paired the dress with a belt to make it hug my curves a little more. The dress normally falls just below my knees, which could drown out a short figure. However, I have worn the garment with and without the belt, and I love it either way. While I can’t find the exact dress, I will include a couple of similar ones below for you to shop! This Plus Size Chaps Colorblock Shift Dress is a dead ringer, though!

Up until now, I have let a lot of people make decisions for me because it was easier. I am so indecisive with everything from pizza toppings to my future plans, which made it easier for me to take the backseat and let the choices of others dictate my life. As you can probably imagine, this really isn’t a great way to live. This summer was a pretty transformative time for me. One day in June, I looked in the mirror and didn’t know who was staring back at me. This was because I wasn’t taking charge of my life and prioritizing my wants and needs.

So I made the decision to make a bold change, and be on my own, forcing myself to listen to my inner voice to guide me where I needed to be. I thought it was only fitting that I had a shirt that spoke to my new-found self awareness and boss mentality. This My Own Boss shirt is from Fashion Nova Curve, and I paired it with this What’s in The Envelope Skirt. I plan on sporting this cute crop top with jeans, sweats, shorts, and skirts, as it’s really versatile and simple, but still makes a huge statement.

Are you living your truth? Are you your own boss? Take a second to look inward to make sure you are on track and in tune with yourself! You won’t regret it!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a 2x in the What’s in The Envelope Skirt and My Own Boss shirt, which is my usual size, and they fit perfectly.

I know I’ve been slacking lately, but hopefully this adorable fall look will make up for it! This sweater is my absolute favorite. I picked this Bell Sleeve Sweater with Trim up from Eloquii a month ago, and I have been dying for it to get a little bit cooler outside so I could wear it. I love everything about the sleeves from the bell shape to the stripes. UGH! Isn’t it just the cutest thing?! And it’s super comfortable. I’ve worn this sweater to work with a pair of dress pants, out to the farmers market with a pair of jeans, and now with this pleated faux-leather skirt.

You may have seen this leather skirt once or twice on the blog, as I have had it for about two years now, and it makes an appearance every once in a while. I have recently renewed may interest in pleated midi skirts after shying away from them for so long. Although I bought this pleated leather midi skirt in Tampa, Florida at a boutique, I found a similar one at Fashion to Figure, and I will include some more to choose from in the shop widget below!

I couldn’t resist putting these two pieces together in the name of fall. I think they pair well together, don’t you?

SIZING INFO: I’m wearing a size 22/24 in the Bell Sleeve Sweater with Trim, which is two sizes larger than my usual size. However, I sized up because I wanted the sweater to have a loose fit.

I think this might be the most on-trend look I’ve ever put together. The denim chevron skirt and the one shoulder, striped blouse is giving me all the heart eyes.

I saw this chevron mini denim skirt in the windows of Forever 21’s Michigan Avenue store in Chicago, and I immediately ran to the plus size section to find it. I had nothing else like the skirt in my closet, and I was obsessed with the chevron stripe pattern. Sure enough, I found it. I scored this one shoulder, striped bow blouse at Eloquii during a shopping trip with my mom. She originally picked out the top for her to try on, but when I saw it on her, I went to go pick up the blouse in my size. So, now my mom and I have matching blouses. LOL. I love the versatility and potential in each of these garments. I could wear the skirt during the last couple of days of summer with a cute tank top, but I could also pair it with some tights or knee-high boots in the fall. I love this blouse for an evening cocktail hour, Sunday brunch, or even a date night look. While the both of these pieces have the potential to be worn with anything, they also go great together. What do you think?

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a 2X in the chevron denim mini skirt, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly. I am wearing a size 18 in Eloquii’s one shoulder bow blouse, which is my usual size, and it fits well.

A Feminine Edge

“Can I wear this to work? Or is it too sexy?” This is the first thing I asked the sales team at Eloquii when I tried on this dress in their brand new Chicago store, located in The Shops at Northbridge. Although I have also asked my friends, the jury is still out on this. I love pieces that can be worn for both work and play, and even though no one can give me a straight answer on whether this piece accomplishes that, I think it can definitely pass for office-appropriate.

It’s all about the little details in this dress: The ruffles, the lace, and the tie waist. Eloquii’s Lace Overlay Long Sleeve Dress with Ruffle Sleeves is a mix between delicate and fashion-forward. Since I am short, the dress is a little long on me, but I like that I can control the length with the tie waist feature. In this shoot, I bloused the dress a bit to give it a shorter look. So what do you guys think? Is this work appropriate? Or should I save it for a first date (or third) look? Am I overthinking this? (Most likely, yes)

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 18 in Eloquii’s Lace Overlay Long Sleeve Dress with Ruffle Sleeves, which is a size larger than my usual size, and the dress fits perfectly. I wanted the dress to fit a little loose around my body, which is why I sized up.

Wide Width Boots and Shoes

Charlotte Russe Wide Calf Boots Review

Every year around this time, I am always on the hunt for over-the-knee boots. And once I find a pair that fit perfectly, I order them in every color. However, if you are curvy and have thick calves—like me—you know that finding the perfect pair of over-the-knee boots is a REAL struggle. I plan on keeping you all in the loop when I score the perfect pair, and I will be sure to share my shopping secrets!
So for the first over-the-knee find this fall, I introduce to you, Charlotte Russe‘s Wide Width Over-The-Knee Boots. Not only do these boots have a wide fit in the shoe itself and in the calf, but they also boast a gold heel. Even though these boots have a little heel on them, they are super comfortable and easy to walk in. I paired the boots with Charlotte Russe’s Plus Size Refuge Skin Tight Legging Jeans and this Plus Size Shaker Stitch Lace-Up Sweater. This is going to be one of my favorite fall looks for sure.
SIZING INFO: In the Plus Size Refuge Skin Tight Legging Jeans, I am wearing a size 18, which is a size larger than my usual size, but a size 16 would have fit perfectly. The jeans are really stretchy and thin, so I would say they are pretty true to size. In the Plus Size Shaker Stitch Lace-Up Sweater I am wearing a 2x, which is my usual size, and the sweater fits perfectly. The sweater has a bit of a cropped fit to it, so if you want it to be a little longer, I would suggest sizing up.
