67% of U.S. women wear a size 14 or larger, but many brands neglect to offer plus size clothing to meet this rising demand. And when it comes to the medical apparel industry, the choices for more than 13 million healthcare professionals are even more scarce.
While I don’t work in the healthcare industry, I have received many questions from my readers about where they can find flattering, well-fitted scrubs. Many of the medical scrubs in the market today are baggy and ill-fitting—especially for plus size women. As brands start to become more inclusive of the plus size figure by offering fashion-forward choices for full-figured women, it only makes sense that clothing suppliers for different industries—such as healthcare—start following suit as well.
Jaanuu, a medical apparel and nursing scrubs brand, is doing just that. Since its inception, the brand has introduced contemporary, runway-inspired antimicrobial finished medical apparel and scrubs. But more recently, the brand is fulfilling its core desire to be body positive and inclusive—empowering doctors and nurses of all shapes and sizes—filling a major gap in the plus size scrubs for women market.
Today, Jaanuu launched the first-ever fashion-forward plus size scrubs, and their approach is truly unique. Their inclusive sizing includes petite and tall sizes, and each style was fitted on an actual plus-size fit model—whereas most brands often create plus sizes by using a size six fit model and simply scaling up.
Digging into every aspect of the garment helped Jaanuu understand how clothes fit on plus-size women in general. For instance, they realized they had to widen the sleeve opening on their best-selling top—the Tulip top—to allow for better ease of movement and comfort. Jaanuu also developed a new ponte fabric that flatters the plus size figure while also providing extra stretch and comfort. Now, plus size women have the option of wearing a classic scrub look with the added comfort of a premium stretch fabric.
To put their extensive work to the test, Jaanuu conducted a wear test by sending samples to plus-size nurses across the U.S. and asking them to give them honest feedback after wearing the scrubs to work. I reached out to the brand to see if I could get a first-look of the scrubs, feel the material, and try them on for myself. I am wearing the Curve Ponte Combo Topand the Curve Ponte Cargo Pant, and the Ponte material is UNREAL. These scrubs feel like a combination between sweats and leggings, yet they look so sharp and professional.
Tops start at $39 and include a variety of different styles including the Tulip top, Button Waist top, and Peplum top. Bottoms start at $42 and include a wide range of color and pattern designs to allow customers to mix and match their favorite styles. These styles can be found in sizes 1X-3X, and they will be sold at the same price point as the brand’s straight sizes—AWESOME!
SIZING INFO: I am wearing a 2X in the Curve Ponte Cargo Pant and the Curve Ponte Combo top, which is my usual size, and both garments fit perfectly!
