Plus Size Reversible One Piece Swimsuits

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City reviews Baiia's sustainable reversible one piece swimsuitsChicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City reviews Baiia's sustainable reversible one piece swimsuits

Each year I get more excited about plus size swimwear because there are always more options and innovations—for example, this plus size reversible one piece swimsuit I am wearing.

I used to be so frustrated that plus size swimwear looked like tankinis, high-waist diaper bikini bottoms, and full coverage one pieces for the longest time. But plus size swimwear has evolved over the years, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Plus size two pieces or one pieces?

Now, I can find flattering plus size bikinis just about anywhere! But I still think bikinis for plus size women need to come a long way. However, I recently came across a plus size one piece swimsuit that really sparked my interest. Baiia’s plus size reversible one piece swimsuits caught my eye on Instagram because their color schemes are all that I have been craving lately.

But when I realized that one swimsuit could easily become two with a few styling hacks, I became obsessed! I quickly fell in love with Baiia’s Mossman Reversible Wrapsuit, which can either be a solid olive green suit or a white and olive striped suit with an olive wrap top. I’ve personally never come across a plus size reversible swimsuit so to say I was in awe is an understatement. I decided to give the swimsuits a shot!

Introducing the reversible one piece swimsuit

The Baiia swimsuits come in two pieces: one piece covers your lower half and then goes over one shoulder. The other piece wraps around your bust and then goes over the other shoulder to create a wrap look. There is also a tie that comes with the swimsuit so that you can give the suit a tie waist effect. When I first slid on this swimsuit, I was surprised that it fit a little snug even though I ordered my true size.

However, Baiia says that their swimsuits are supposed to fit a little tight at first to give you a flattering look and that the swimsuit will mold to your body after the first couple of wears. Overall, I was so impressed and I can’t wait to own more! Want to see this swimsuit in action? Check out the TikTok I made!

Another thing that I love about Baiia is its commitment to making sustainable swimwear. The brand’s mission is truly one that I stand by, and I can’t thank them enough for making swimwear that is ethical, stylish, and confidence-boosting. I hope the brand can expand its sizing range in the future so that our friends who wear 3X-6X can also wear their beautiful and incredibly well-made swimsuits!

If you love this swimsuit, you can use the code “Natalie10” to get $$ off your order!

SIZING INFO: I ordered a size XXXXL, which is a size 18—according to Baiia’s sizing guide. I typically wear a size 18, and the swimsuit fits a little snug at first, which is normal. I would suggest ordering your usual size!

Plus Size Latex Mini Skirt

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie Craig Natalie in the City reviews Fashion Nova Curve's plus size latex mini skirtsWhile shopping online definitely has its cons, it gives me the opportunity to be more creative than ever—whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Sometimes I’ll look at different pieces of clothing and piece together unique looks even if it may be risky as I don’t actually know what it will look like in real life. This plus size latex mini skirt

This outfit from Fashion Nova Curve is a perfect example of how creative I like to get when shopping online. I first came across this plus size crop top with a puff sleeve, and I put it in my cart knowing that I would easily find something to with it. I envisioned the top going well with a pair of jeans or a cute plus size mini skirt. But then, when I saw this plus size latex mini skirt from Fashion Nova, I instantly thought of how it could bring some cool contrast to the top. Sure, these things weren’t made to go together, but who cares?

I love mixing edgier pieces with really whimsical and girly garments because that’s pretty much my style in a nutshell. I rarely ever gravitate toward one singular style because I mostly like to wear whatever catches my attention and makes me feel confident. But mixing edgy and whimsical is totally my jam. Also, you all know I can’t resist a good plus size mini skirt!

If you love this outfit, you can use the code NATINTHECITY to get 20% off your next Fashion Nova purchase!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a 2X in both the top and the skirt, which is my usual size, and they both fit perfectly!

What is Chub Rub and How to Stop It?

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City wears Thigh Society's anti chafe shorts.
Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City wears Thigh Society's anti chafe shorts.

If you’re wondering what is chub rub and how to stop it, I will share my tried and true methods for protecting my inner thighs!

Summer has to be one of my least favorite seasons for the simple reason that it’s just hard to be a carefree, fun-loving, and fashionable fat girl during the hotter days. Why? One of the biggest things that stand in my way of having the best summer ever is chub rub—and I know every thick, plus size woman can relate.

This post contains affiliate links, which I can earn a small commission on when you purchase items (at no extra cost to you). Learn more about affiliates here!

What is chub rub?

So what is chub rub? It occurs when my thighs rub together when I wear shorts, skirts, and dresses. After maybe 10 minutes of walking, my inner thighs quickly chafe, causing a very irritating and painful rash.

How to Stop Chub Rub

These are some of my favorite products for stopping chub rub and protecting my inner thighs! You can also easily shop my tried and true anti-chafe products on my Amazon storefront!

Anti-Chafe Shorts

Shop Anti-Chafe shorts here

Now, I don’t want to spend my summer hiding my thighs in jeans or pants to avoid getting a chub rub rash…I want to wear trendy plus size dresses and skirts like everyone else. So how do I deal with chub rub? Since 2017, I have sworn by Thigh Society’s anti chafing underwear. And I STILL wear my first pair—The Original—from 2017 at least once a week both by themselves and under dresses and skirts. Yeah, the quality is that good!

But since I got my first pair of Thigh Society anti chafing shorts, the brand has evolved to offer a variety of shorts that suit every woman’s seasonal and wardrobe needs. And I just got to try out some of the newer styles. While I stand by the brand’s “Original Short,” my second favorite has to be The Cooling anti chafe shorts, which I am wearing in the color beige. These shorts are very lightweight and sheer and they feel like practically nothing. I love wearing these on the hotter days, but they will also work great in fall if I am wearing a thicker sweater skirt.

I also got to try out The Staple anti chafe shorts, which I am wearing in black. I chose a 9″ inseam for these shorts so that I could wear these into the fall under longer dresses and skirts. That’s another reason why I love Thigh Society, they give you a variety of options for the color, length, and coverage. These shorts are breathable and comfortable, and most importantly, they keep me safe from chub rub and chafing.

Anti-Chafe Sticks

Shop MegaBabe Anti-Chafe Balm here

I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention anti-chafe sticks and balms since they are also such a great option to prevent chub rub, but I will always opt for shorts over a balm that may feel too greasy or sticky and will likely wear off after a couple of hours.

Anti-Chafing Thigh Bands

Shop Thigh Bandelettes here

Anti-chafing thigh bands are also a great option to combat chub rub, but they often roll down and fold after minutes of walking. But I also love to wear mini skirts, which presents a challenge to my preference of wearing shorts underneath. However, Thigh Society now offers anti-chafing slip shorts with a 5″ inseam, allowing me to wear a mini skirt without the shorts showing. SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size XL/2XL, which is my usual size at Thigh Society. I usually wear a size 18 or 2X on bottom!

Let’s have a great summer!

If you are tired of getting chub rub and missing out on fun summer styles, try anti-chafing slip shorts to find some relief! These shorts truly bring me peace of mind when I am planning out my outfits for the week. Knowing that I will not be in pain while wearing my favorite skirts and dresses is a huge anxiety reliever, and it actually gives me hope that I can enjoy summer to the fullest! While summer may be coming to a close, anti-chafing slip or bike shorts are also perfect for fall to protect us from chub rub when we style our favorite sweater dresses and keep us warm during the chilly days.

Adore Me Confidence-Boosting Bras and Panties

Chicago petite plus size fashion blogger Natalie in the City reviews Adore Me's confidence-boosting bras and panties.

Lately, I have been really excited about either nude-toned lingerie or bras and panties that boost confidence that boast bold colors like neon green. I have usually always stuck to plus size black lingerie, but I have been trying to enhance my collection of sultry bras and panties that I can wear around the house when I need an extra dose of confidence.

How bras and panties boost my confidence

I used to throw on lingerie here and there when I was having a rough day to shift my mood, but I have done it even more so while in quarantine because experiencing days of isolation can be extremely hard on my self esteem and anxiety. There is something about changing out of the baggy sweatpants I have been wearing all week and sliding on dressy plus size loungewear or curve-contouring lingerie.

My favorite place to shop for plus size bras and panties

One of the plus size lingerie boutiques I have been shopping at most frequently is Adore Me. I absolutely love their wide selection, and their lingerie runs true to my actual size. I find that a lot of lingerie boutiques that carry plus size lingerie have weird sizing charts that usually have me wearing a G or F cup, when I am actually a C cup. But I never run into these issues while shopping at Adore Me.

To fulfill my craving for nude-colored lingerie, I found this Cinthia Unlined Lace Bra and Panty set in a really pretty brown. From time to time, I also top the look off with the Monika Plus Size Lounge Dress.

The dress is so comfortable and it looks so sexy on me, which is awesome because I could have messy hair and my Adidas pool slides on and this dress still makes me look like a bombshell…LOL. I love shopping at Adore Me for plus size slip dresses!

If you haven’t tried this brand yet, the Adore Me reviews 2020 should tell you all you need to know! This is a brand that has exciting things in store!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in the dress, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly! I am wearing a 42C in the bra, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly. I am wearing a size 3X in the panties, which is one size larger than my usual size, but they fit perfectly. Sometimes I size up in panties because I find that some of the lace styles have a low rise and my tummy always folds over the top of the panties.

Plus Size Tie-Dye Loungewear

Chicago petite plus size fashion blogger Natalie in the City, reviews tie-dye loungewear from Fashion Nova.

Since the world went into quarantine as COVID-19 started to spread, many people turned to fun DIY projects to do at home, and I have turned to plus size tie-dye loungewear.

Tie-dying anything and everything you could is one of the most popular quarantine activities. And while I think tie-dye is so fun, I never got around to actually creating some masterpieces of my own. I used to tie-dye T-shirts in high school all the time and I have even dabbled in swirling toilet bleach onto old, black shirts and shorts back in my days as a teen.

Call it being influenced by the massive amount of time I spend on TikTok, but I have been craving some tie-dye in my life. While I obviously wanted a tie-dye plus size t-shirt, I also wanted plus size tie dye sweatpants. However, since I have accumulated so many plus size sweatpants since my days in quarantine, I wanted to find something that boasted a tie-dye print but was a bit chicer than your average joggers.

I came across this More Freedom Pant Set from Fashion Nova Curve, and I instantly knew that this was exactly what I was looking for. It’s so soft and perfect for lounging around the house, but I could also easily wear this when I am out and about. I’ll be chilling in this gorgeous plus size tie dye lounge wear set for the rest of quarantine, along with my other luxurious plus size loungewear!

If you love this set and would like to get 20% off on your next Fashion Nova order, use the code NATINTHECITY at checkout!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in this set, which is my usual size, and the set fits perfectly. Because I am short (5’2), the pants are a little long.

Plus Size Work Dresses to Wear in the Office

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City shares her favorite work dresses

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City shares her favorite work dresses

I am always looking for outfits and plus size work dresses that I can wear to the office since that was where I used to spend most of my time before COVID-19 turned my office job into a telecommute position. And I am sure that I will return to the office eventually, but I am not totally sure what the workplace will look like when all of this is past us. If you are looking for plus size office and work dresses, I will include a shoppable widget with my favorites at the bottom of this post!

And while I am not currently going into the office every day, I still look for and plan out business casual looks so that I can hit the office in style when I go back. This City Chic Knotted Long Sleeve Button Up Dress from the plus size boutique CoEdition recently caught my eye, but I am wondering if it’s work appropriate. From the waist up, it says business, but I worry that the front slit may be a little too high. Aside from pondering its practicality, the dress feels amazing on and looks even better. I love the way it hugs my curves! And while I have a lot of plus size black dresses for work in my closet, I don’t have one like this. My favorite feature of the dress has to be the knotted center. It’s such a unique detail on a business casual dress, and it really emphasizes my curves. Whether it’s truly practical or not, I think I will risk it. Working from home has made me appreciate being able to get dressed every day, and when I head back into the office environment, I won’t take those days for granted!

Have you ever heard of CoEdition? It’s a marketplace exclusively for plus size women! The shop makes it so easy to find my size and some of the styles and designers that I know I already love, but it also introduces me to new brands. The next time you need major outfit inspiration or you want to search for a particular item of clothing across multiple plus size brands, check out CoEdition!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size M, which is a size 18-20 at City Chic. This is my usual size, and the dress fits perfectly. There is a bit of stretch in the dress for added comfort.

Probably Not My Last Cushnie x Target Dress

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City, reviews Carly Cushnie x Target plus size slip dresses.

As you have already seen. I have been obsessed with the Carly Cushnie X Target plus size slip dresses!

If you have read my previous posts about the CUSHNIE X TARGET clothing line, then you know that I was debating getting the beige and lime green plus size slip dress from the collection. Well, obviously, I got it! I was initially worried about how the beige and green would look on my skin tone, but ultimately, I think I pull the two colors off pretty well. All of the dresses from the collection are so chic, and I see so much potential to dress these pieces up and down for any occasion. Plus size slip dresses are very trendy right now, so I am so happy to have a few pieces from this line. However, I wish I would have waited to by them because these dresses are now more than 50% off at Target! I have included a roundup of all the available dresses in the shoppable widget below so you can scoop these pieces up at an amazing discount.

But before you add all of these dresses to your cart, let’s talk about sizing! I found sizing to be pretty inconsistent and hard to determine for myself. There was only one Target in my area that actually carried the collection in stores, but because of COVID-19, I decided to take my chances and order all of my pieces online. The black slip dress was too big at first, even though I ordered it in a size 18, which is my usual size. So I ordered it in a 16, and it was a little tight. The pink, beige, and red dress I ordered were super tight in the chest, even though it was a size 18. I got the green and beige slip dress in a size 18, which was a little tight—contrary to the black slip dress, but similar to the pink, red, and beige slip dress.

Are you confused yet? Well, I figured out that these differences in sizes could be attributed to the fact that all of these dresses have a different back style. The black dress ties as a halter on the neck, whereas the green dress and the beige, red, and pink dress have a racerback. So when it comes to sizing, I say order your regular size and know that it might be a little tight or a little loose.

Regardless, I am super happy with all the dresses I now have, and I can’t wait to wear them! Even if that means they sit in my closest until 2021 when COVID-19 is a little less of a threat. Stay safe and healthy!

Flowy Plus Size Jumpsuit

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger, influencer, YouTuber, and model Natalie Craig, of Natalie in the City, reviews CoEdition's jumpsuits.

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City reviews CoEdition's jumpsuits.

I realize I haven’t published a new blog post in a couple of days…so sorry about that! I have been super busy with work and freelance things! But I have also been weaving some normalcy back into my life by doing things outside of the four corners of my apartment and wearing beautiful plus size jumpsuits. It’s been nice, but I realize that I have been more tired than ever, which means my blog usually suffers.

However, I am going to try and make writing blog posts more of a top priority because it truly makes me happy to connect with you all.

Over the past couple of years, I have started to embrace plus size jumpsuits! I used to avoid them because I felt like they wouldn’t look good on my figure, but after trying out different styles, I have determined that plus size jumpsuits look very good on curves! Want to take a trip down memory lane with me? Let’s go back three years to when I first started wearing jumpsuits! Check it out: Bell Bottom Floral Jumpsuit

Today, I am wearing this beautiful City Chic Tropic Tie Jumpsuit from the plus size boutique CoEdition. I love this jumpsuit because it’s so simple, but some of the design elements make it more dramatic, like the high slit on both legs and the ruffle hem. The jumpsuit looks incredible on my body as it hugs my curves just right and is flowy and lightweight everywhere else. I love that I can dress it up or down, depending on the occasion. I’ve worn this jumpsuit to the grocery store with a messy bun and some sandals, and I have also worn it to dinner with friends where I dressed it up with a cute purse and accessories.

I hope you all are staying safe and getting back into the things you enjoy while slowly emerging from quarantine!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 18 (M) in the jumpsuit, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly!

Plus Size Swimsuits from Adore Me

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City reviews Adore Me's swimwear
I have been obsessed with everything from Adore Me lately. From Adore Me’s plus size dresses to their plus size lingerie, everything I have ever ordered has fit me perfectly and it looks so good on my figure. I actually didn’t know that Adore Me sold more than just lingerie and swimwear until I accidentally came across their ready-to-wear line.
Since then, the brand has been my go-to for everything! And today, I will be trying out Adore Me’s plus size swimwear!
When I saw this Andria Contour Plus Size Leopard Swimsuit, I was so intrigued. As you all know, I have recently welcomed leopard back into my life. I love the treatment of the print on this swimsuit. It’s new, and fresh and it’s a bold look for the beach or the pool. When I put on the swimsuit, I first noticed how well it fit me. The suit was very supportive and hugged every curve just right. When I first took a glance at myself in the mirror, I fell in love with the way it looked on me. From the plunging neckline to the thick straps, this suit has become my new favorite. Not only will I look stunning on the beach or by the pool, but this suit could totally double as a bodysuit, too!
SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in the swimsuit, which is my usual size, and it fits me perfectly!

Plus Size Slip Dresses for Summer

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger and model Natalie Craig, of Natalie in the City, reviews Cushnie X Target slip dresses

If you have been keeping up with the blog, you will have seen my initial review of the Cushnie x Target collab this weekend. I ordered two dresses from the new line at Target, and they both ended up fitting pretty differently. If you’d like to learn more about my first impression of the collaboration, read this: Cushnie x Target Plus Size Slip Dress

If you love slip dresses like me, I will include my favorite plus size slip dresses in the shippable widget at the end of this post!

I was most excited for this Black Plus Size Slip Dress because it’s something that I can wear any day, any time. It’s so versatile that it could be dressed up or down for any occasion. And when I got the dress, it didn’t disappoint. I slipped it on, and I instantly felt sexy and confident.

The price point for the collaboration is also amazing for the quality of the garment. I paid $50 for this dress, which I feel is well worth it.

The fit, however, was a little off. The other slip dress I bought from this collection was sort of a different style, and it also had some fit issues—it was tight in the bust even though I wasn’t wearing a bra. The other dress was more fitted and structured in the bust than this black dress, though, which was kind of loose and had a plunging back. I could wear the black dress as is, however, the back is really loose and falls down a bit. I think I might return it to size down for a tighter fit.

Regardless, this dress is a stunner, and it will be in my closet for a very long time. Actually, I plan to buy more slip dresses from this collection because whether I will spend my days inside or outside this season, I plan to wear slip dresses every day!

If you haven’t heard of the luxury womenswear and bridal brand Cushnie before, allow me to introduce you to the brand’s founder and CEO, Carly Cushnie. She is an incredibly accomplished Black designer who designs clothing for powerful women like Michelle Obama!

While her typical collections are pricey, her collaboration with Target allows everyone to get their hands on Carly’s stunning designs. Both dresses cost me around $110 in total, which is a fair price for high-quality, unique pieces.

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 18W, which is my usual size, but the dress is a little loose in the back. I will probably exchange this dress for a size 16.

Plus Size Shopping at SHEIN

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City, reviews SHEIN's mini skirts and plus size clothing.

When it comes to shopping for plus size clothing, SHEIN has to be the brand I get the most questions about, and rightfully so. When you shop online at SHEIN, you’ll notice bold plus size styles and super cheap prices. But you’ll also see that not all of the clothing is modeled on plus size women. Many of the bolder styles are flat lays, which make it hard to see how it could look on your body.

Last summer, I shopped at SHEIN for the first time. I decided to take chance and order swimsuits. I used the reviews with photos to help me determine the best size for me. And luckily, a lot of SHEIN shoppers leave reviews with photos. When I got my plus size swimsuits from SHEIN, I was pleasantly surprised because most of the swimsuits actually fit me pretty well.

Since then, I have frequently ordered SHEIN’s plus size mini skirts. I can’t say that everything I have ever ordered has worked out, but that’s okay because I can return what doesn’t work, and I am not spending hundreds of dollars on one style.

The type of clothing I have ordered most from SHEIN has to be mini skirts. I have the hardest time finding plus size mini skirts, but SHEIN has a wide selection. Because I am so short (5’2), I love that mini skirts elongate my figure and I always feel very confident in them. My latest order from SHEIN included two ruffle mini skirts. This plus size mini skirt was a piece I was super excited for because it will go well with just about anything. The material was stretchier than I thought it be, which made the skirt a little looser than I expected, but it’s still very cute. I paired the skirt with an off-the-shoulder puff sleeve blouse and a pair of Wide Ankle Wrap Gladiator Sandals. I love this look for a day out on the town or for a tropical vacation.

So what’s my advice on shopping at SHEIN? Pay close attention to the sizing guide, and make sure you check out the reviews to help guide you in the right direction! If you have any questions about SHEIN, let me know in the comments or on Instagram! You can also use my code: “NATALIEINTHECITY” for 15% off your next SHEIN order!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 3X, which SHEIN says is a size 18 on their website, and the skirt fits me fine. It’s a little loose because the material is so stretchy so I could have sized down!

Cushnie x Target Plus Size Slip Dresses

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City reviews Cushnie X Target

I have been especially drawn to the colors pink and red together lately. I think it was my blogger bestie Shaniqua’s pink and red puffer trench coat that created my desire for this color scheme. And I finally found a plus size slip dress that pairs these two colors beautifully!

Did you shop the Cushnie x Target Slip Dress Collab?

And when I first saw the Cushnie x Target collaboration, it was like my dreams came true. Not only does the collaboration include plus size slip dresses with contrasting color combinations, but there was one dress that caught my eye.

The Cushnie Women’s Plus Size Pleated Dress not only had the pink and red color combo that I loved, but there was also a really beautiful, pearly beige portion of the dress. I was also instantly drawn to the pleated part of the dress, which adds some dimension and also makes the stress even more unique. I knew I had to have it.

I had to restrain myself, though because I instantly wanted to buy all of the dresses including the Cushnie Plus Size Beige and Green Two Tone Slip Dress and the Plus Size Black Slip Dress. I decided the black slip dress would be a strategic and smart investment, so I allowed myself to buy it with the pink and red dress. And because I am so impressed with both of the dresses I ordered, I may have to also get the beige and green slip dress, too!

The pink and red dress I am wearing today was made for more formal occasions, but I could totally see myself wearing this on a casual day out or for a brunch date. Today, I wanted to add some more personality to the dress with these speckled heels, which was so cute.

Who is Carly Cushnie?

If you haven’t heard of the luxury womenswear and bridal brand Cushnie before, allow me to introduce you to the brand’s founder and CEO, Carly Cushnie. Stay tuned to see how I style the black slip dress—and if I get the beige and green one!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 18W, which is my usual size, and the dress fits perfectly! It’s a little tight in the bust without a bra, but that’s okay because I prefer to go bra-less these days! If you are bustier, I would suggest sizing up!
