I have always believed that clothing had the power to transform my mood and confidence, and have witnessed this while in quarantine for months and months! On the days I wanted to feel extra beautiful, or needed a confidence boost, I dressed up—even if I wasn’t leaving my apartment. Not only did dressing up skyrocket my productivity while working from home, but it also made the day extra special.

Seeing how much I loved getting dressed to go nowhere really challenged me to be creative with the outfits in my closet. I quickly realized that I could turn so much of my closet into loungewear that made me feel so much better about myself than a pair of sweatpants. My plus size dresses were by far the garments that impressed me the most. From sexy plus size dresses for women to plus size casual summer dresses, I found that these clothes were so much more versatile than I previously thought.

Specifically, these two Dressbarn plus size dresses have been in my rotation frequently. The Kaftan Striped Dress is more appropriate for the days when I have to be on camera for work or want to go for a more “dressed up look”. It’s a great piece that I love to work into my weekly wardrobe because it’s more structured and feels more put together. Whether I have makeup on with my hair done or I am rocking a messy bun and clean face all day, these pieces fit in perfectly with my day-to-day. I spend many days a week lounging in this Iluh Kaftan. I love the boho chic vibes of this dress. It feels so whimsical and effortlessly beautiful. You could say that I have definitely curated my very own collection of work from home dresses and plus size lounge dresses.

If you are looking for a wide variety of well-fitting plus size dresses, you will definitely want to check out Dressbarn. They cover a range of styles so you’re sure to find clothing that excites you!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2XL in the Iluh Kaftan, which is my usual size, and the dress fits perfectly. This dress has a naturally oversized and slouchy fit. The material is lightweight and comfortable. In the Kaftan Striped Dress, I am wearing a 2XL, which is my usual size, and the dress fits perfectly. The dress runs true to size with a lightweight non-stretch fabric.

Thank you so much to Dressbarn for sponsoring today’s post. All of the opinions shared in this post are 110% my own. I am a huge proponent of brands that create inclusive, high-quality clothing for plus size women. Thank you for supporting the brands that make my blog, Natalie in the City, a possibility!

Natural and Clean Hair Care with Briogeo

My introduction to Briogeo’s Natural and Clean Hair Care

A couple of months ago, my best friend Katherine was raving about a new natural hair care brand she was loving. I knew that if it met her standards, the product must have been pretty good. After a few months of me being stubborn and sticking to mediocre shampoos that I just settled for because the selection seemed too vast, I decided to take my best friend’s word for it. And that’s when I started implementing Briogeo hair care into my beauty routine.

Briogeo: clean, sustainable, cruelty-free, and black-owned

What really attracted me to Briogeo was its commitment to clean beauty, high quality ingredients, diversity and inclusion—Briogeo is black owned—and sustainability. Briogeo is the brand we all need right now as it leads the way in providing people with clean and safe ingredients while also taking steps to save our environment and better our world. The sustainable beauty brand uses sustainable packaging that is not only made out of recycled materials, but the bottles can also be recycled. It also upholds fair trade and ethical practices to ensure it sources high quality ingredients while giving back to the regions it sources from and empowering their communities. Briogeo also prides itself on its 6-free hair care promise to make products without silicones, parabens, phthalates, DEA, and synthetic color.  Ever since I took a journalism class on the science behind skin care and beauty, I have become someone who flips over every bottle to read the ingredients list—and I am very picky! I love that Briogeo is very transparent with their formulations and includes the exact percentage of naturally derived ingredients–and the source—on the back of every one of its bottles. This really makes me feel confident that I am using a product that won’t harm me. It’s also really nice to have this transparency because my skin is sensitive to certain ingredients.

Natural and Clean Hair Care with Briogeo at Ulta Beauty

Briogeo just launched at Ulta Beauty, which is super exciting for me since I have an Ulta Beauty store just steps away from my apartment! My current favorite products from Briogeo are the Be Gentle, Be Kind Matcha + Apple Replenishing Natural Shampoo and Kale + Apple Replenishing Natural Conditioner. I typically wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner two or three times a week, but I love to refresh my hair in between washes with Briogeo’s Avocado Kiwi Mega Moisture Superfood moisturizing hair mask. Typically, I do this treatment a couple of days after my initial wash, and I leave the mask in for 10-ish minutes. After I rinse the mask out, my hair feels so silky and soft. And it stays that way long after I have styled it. Another one of my favorite masks from Briogeo is it Don’t Despair and Repair Mask. Whether I style my hair or not—these days, my hair rarely ever gets done—I really enjoy the Briogeo Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray. It makes sure every strand of my hair is smooth and shiny. My unstyled hair used to be unruly and frizzy, but now, I enjoy my natural style much more.  If you’re looking for cruelty free hair care or product formulations that are mostly vegan, you should try adding Briogeo into your routine. The brand was made with all hair textures in mind, which means there are products that cater to your hair type, as well as products that are all encompassing.

Plus Size Faux Shearling Jackets

petite and plus size fashion blogger natalie in the city reviews Forever 21's plus size faux shearling jackets and teddy coats

Shearling jackets are on everyone’s style wish list these days, and I have been on the hunt for plus size shearling jackets for quite a while. But I think my search is finally over because I have found a jacket I absolutely love!

This post contains affiliate links, which I can earn a small commission on when you purchase items (at no extra cost to you). Learn more about affiliates here!

I found this plus size shearling jacket at Forever 21, and I knew I had to have it before it sold out. Sadly, the jacket is no longer in stock, but I have included a shoppable roundup of my favorite plus size shearling coats below! I know you’ll find a jacket that pulls at your heart strings just as much as this one did to me! I’ve never successfully pulled off a denim on denim look so I knew that this outfit would be a little risky, but ultimately, I am really happy with the way this turned out. I paired plus size skinny jeans—that were a very similar wash and color to the jacket—with a plus size long sleeve to complete the look.

Aside from the shearling denim combo, the plus size teddy coats are also very similar, but have their own unique touch. You can find these teddy coats in a variety of lengths, colors, and styles making them a bold addition to your wardrobe. I currently have a beige teddy jacket that I absolutely love wearing with an all black look.

P.S. plus size teddy jackets and faux shearling coats can be bulky. They are rarely ever sleek, contouring, or “flattering.” But I do not dress for flattery, I dress for comfort and excitement. As a petite and plus size woman, I have been conditioned to wear clothing that “slims” or “shrinks” my figure instead of making it stand out. However, I have worked really hard to build confidence through positive morning affirmations, which has allowed me to break free of the flattery dress code. So I just wanted to remind you that you can absolutely break away from the “plus size rules” you’ve been conditioned to follow. Wear clothing that makes you feel inspired and excited—even if it’s outside of your comfort zone!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in the shearling coat, which is my usual size, and the coat fits perfectly. I am wearing a size 18 in the skinny jeans, which is my usual size, and I found that the jeans did fit, but were a little tight and felt like they were a lower waist than I was used to. Unfortunately, the size 18 is the highest size, but after wearing them for a day, they feel fine! I am wearing a size 2X in the long sleeve crop top, which is my usual size, and the shirt fits perfectly! It’s very stretchy!

Forever 21 sent me this outfit to review. All opinions are 100% my own!

When I was a teenager, I loved all things Betsey Johnson. To me, the brand represented self expression in its purest and wildest form. I loved the sequins, sparkle, bold prints, and bright colors that graced everything Betsey Johnson designed. So when I heard about the Torrid Betsey Johnson lingerie collection, I was so excited—to say the least. I am a huge fan of Torrid lingerie and their plus size bras.

And let me tell you, the collection did not disappoint. In these photos, I am wearing the hot pink leopard satin robe and matching bra and panties. While the panties are high waisted, they are also a thong, which I love. I felt very sexy while wearing this set, and the best part is that I get to wear it often! Spending most of my days at home, plus size robes and plus size loungewear are my go-to when it comes to my daily attire. I am so happy to add this one to my robe lineup.

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2 (18) in the plus size satin robe and the leopard panties, which is my usual size, and they both fit perfectly. I am wearing a 44D in the bra, which is my usual size, and the bra fits me perfectly! The bra is not padded at all.

13 Petite Plus Size Clothing Brands to Shop

12 petite plus size clothing brands to shop-from petite plus size jeans to petite plus size dresses

When you think of the plus size body, you probably envision a figure that’s curvy in all the “right” places and also stands tall. Now, what do you think about when you think about a person with a petite figure? Probably the opposite. She stands just under 5 feet 4 inches tall and her frame is probably more on the slender side. At least, this is what we have been conditioned to believe these figures look like. When in reality, plus size bodies, as well as petite frames, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and heights. And while the sizing terms “petite” and “plus size” are polar opposites, they are also a sizing category of their own! While this sizing category exists, it can be hard to find petite plus size brands. However, I am going to show you where to shop petite plus size clothing brands today!

So how do I know if I am petite and plus size?

Let’s talk about me, for example…

Wearing Torrid’s Petite and Plus Size Work Pants

I am 5’2 and a size 18, which means I am petite and plus size. And I am not the only one. The average woman is now a size 16 or 18, which means she identifies as plus size. And what’s even more interesting is that the average height of a woman is just at or right under 5’4, classifying them as “petite.” This means that the average American woman is petite and plus size.

As a petite plus size fashion blogger, it has been extremely difficult to fit into fashion and find clothing from petite plus size clothing brands made for my body. But I’m here to share my petite plus style tips with you and to show the world that short, plus size women belong in fashion! In every blog post, you will find a “SIZING GUIDE” section at the bottom of my post that tells you exactly which size I ordered in the outfit I am wearing, whether I sized up or down, and how the garment fit me. I share these details to help you determine how these clothes will also fit you. And aside from that, I would love to officially share the petite plus size clothing brands that I love to shop at!

Who sells petite plus size clothing?

  1. Universal Standard: One of my favorite brands of all time is Universal Standard. The brand has lead the way in making sure inclusivity and diversity are at the forefront of plus size fashion. I love their petite plus size pants. I recently reviewed their plus size petite wide leg pants!
  2. Lane Bryant: Shop everything from petite plus size dresses to jeans at Lane Bryant. This brand has a variety of petite and plus size options. I highly recommend Lane Bryant’s jeans! They hug your curves just right—and they come in petite sizes!
  3. Abercrombie & Fitch: Recently, I have fallen love with Abercrombie’s Curve Love Jeans with a short inseam. I had no idea that Abercrombie sold plus size denim, but that they also offered an extra short and short inseam! They have become my favorite jeans.
  4. Torrid: Torrid is one of my most favorite plus size brands ever. They include the option to shop pants with a short inseam so that petite plus size shoppers don’t have to roll up their denim or get alterations! Torrid petite and plus size jeans and leggings always fit me perfectly!
  5. Talbots: I learned about Talbot’s petite plus size line a couple of years ago when I shopped their for a cute holiday outfit.
  6. Madewell: Madewell recently came onto the plus size scene, and they also offer petite plus sizing on many of their jeans and pants. Check out the Madewell plus size section to explore!
  7. Avenue: If you need petite plus size jeans or plus size work pants, Avenue has a wide selection of pants that were made with your figure in mind! I love shopping at Avenue when I am building my office wardrobe.
  8. Land’s End: If you are in need of petite plus size long sleeves or petite plus size jackets, Land’s End plus sizes are the perfect place to find basic staples that will hug your curves just right.
  9. Eloquii: Eloquii used to have a dedicated petite and plus size section. While they no longer have a dedicated petite plus size section, I am able to order my favorite work pants and jeans with a petite/short inseam! And also, I usually order their plus size ankle pants or pants that look like they fall just above an average person’s ankles, and they usually fit me perfectly without needing to be hemmed!
  10. Old Navy: I am happy to report that you can select a short inseam when you shop pants from Old Navy! A petite and plus size girl’s dreams!
  11. American Eagle: Similarly to wearing Torrid jeans, American Eagle curvy jeans can also be ordered in a short or petite inseam.
  12. Macy’s: Macy’s is a great place to shop for petite plus size work pants as they carry brands like JM Collection, Style & Co., and Karen Scott.
  13. Loft: While Loft doesn’t have a true petite plus size clothing line, their petite sizes do go up to an XXL and a size 18.

Plus Size Holiday Outfits

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City how to build confidence plus size holiday outfit plus size tuxedo pants

The holidays look a lot different this year. While you may not be getting together with family this holiday season or attending parties with your friends, that doesn’t mean your holiday outfits are doomed! If quarantine has taught us anything… it’s that you don’t need an excuse to get dressed up. Putting on an outfit has done wonders for my self esteem while in quarantine. I find that when I dress up, I have way more confidence and I am so much more productive.

As I mentioned above, when I am trying to figure out how to build confidence, the quickest way for me is to throw on an outfit I love—even if I am staying inside all day. And since the holidays may be hard for most of us because we aren’t surrounded by friends and family, wearing a plus size holiday outfit may put you in the Christmas spirit.

This year, I am wearing two adorable looks from Torrid, which I just ordered from their new holiday collection We Wish You. I obviously added some dazzle into my outfits because while I never need an excuse to wear sequins, the holidays are the perfect time to sparkle a little more.

My first holiday look of the season is this beautiful plus size sequin dress. The fluted mini fit hugs my curves just right and makes the dress versatile as it could be worn with tights and a coat or strappy heels by itself. I love the bronze sequins on this dress because it’s flashy, but not too over the top. I decided to throw on a plus size coat to stay warm in these photos!

And while I love a cute plus size mini dress, I also dream of a holiday look that is both glam and comfortable. So for my second holiday outfit, I paired Torrid’s Bombshell velvet tuxedo pant with a plus size sequin top. This all black outfit is simple yet very chic and it’s incredibly comfortable. Torrid’s bombshell skinny jeans are the most comfortable pants I have ever worn in my life. They feel like leggings and the thick ponte material contours my curves. I’m obsessed.

No matter what your plans are for the holidays, I hope you take some time for yourself. You deserve to relax and feel special today whether you’re hosting a celebration or watching Christmas movies and drinking hot cocoa.

Happy Holidays! XO

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2 in the sequin mini dress and sequin top, which is my usual size, and both of these pieces fit me perfectly! I ordered a size 18 in the tuxedo pant, which is my usual size, and the pants fit me perfectly. As I mentioned above, the pants are very stretchy, but they also have light compression.

Torrid sent me these outfits to review. All opinions are 100% my own!

Check Out This Plus Size Athleisure Outfit

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City work from home outfits faux leather leggings

I never thought I would have developed a full-blown “quarantine wardrobe,” or had to put together multiple work from home outfits…let alone that I would be wearing these outfits well into the end of 2020. But here we are. And now, Chicago has officially mandated a stay-at-home order for the next 30 days. So, it’s safe to say that I will be wearing more plus size athleisure outfits.

This post contains affiliate links, which I can earn a small commission on when you purchase items (at no extra cost to you). Learn more about affiliates here!

For the longest time, my plus size loungewear consisted of plus size sweatpants or an oversized T-shirt. While I didn’t hate lounging around in comfortable clothes, I noticed that my confidence and productivity were low when I didn’t get dressed. So now that we are going into the second wave of stay at home orders, I am glad I know what to expect and how to keep myself feeling confident and balanced—with my wardrobe and beyond.

This outfit has been my favorite look for a day out. It’s perfect for the times when I just want to wear something comfortable, but I don’t want to feel frumpy. I feel like a beige plus size coat can elevate any look, so I usually start with one of those! To add some dimension to the outfit, I threw on a pair of plus size faux leather leggings. I kept my top simple with a beautiful plus size black sweater. Since I live in the city, I am usually walking around a lot so I topped this look off with my favorite Adidas sneakers! To elevate the look further, I usually throw on a cute designer handbag and a pair of statement sunglasses.

No matter where you are, I hope you keep your head up during this next month as we all grapple with COVID-19! XO

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in the trench coat, a 2X in the sweater, and a 2X in these leggings, and everything fits me perfectly!

Plus Size Velour Tracksuit

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City wears a plus size velour tracksuit from Fashion Nova and Juicy Couture.

I never thought I would see the day when the plus size velour tracksuit would be back in style, but now that it is, I don’t hate it! In fact, young Natalie who used to be obsessed with the Juicy Couture velour tracksuit is living for this moment!

I first became aware of velour’s rise to prominence when I saw Kim Kardashian’s velour Skims tracksuit. The new velour line features bralettes and velour robes, which look super luxe and—in my opinion—elevate the velour material.

Since the Skims velour line sold out so fast, I turned to Fashion Nova Curve—which already had a plus size velour tracksuit in so many different colors. Since I haven’t embraced the material much over the past decade, I decided to ease into it with an all black look. But as I get more comfortable with the velour trend and wearing this plus size velour tracksuit, I may try bolder colors. All-in-all, I absolutely love wearing this tracksuit. Whether I am working from home or running to the grocery store, this is currently my go-to set. I also love to slide on some crisscross fuzzy slippers when I am lounging around to get the full cozy and luxe feel. The crisscross style of fuzzy slippers has been so popular lately so I included a bunch of my favorite styles in the shop widget below!

I could get used to wearing plus size loungewear every day…oh wait, I already have! #thanksquarantine

And now, I am afraid to admit it, but wearing this velour tracksuit has made me want to start looking for the original Juicy Couture jumpsuit with the crystalized “Juicy” on the butt. I hope the brand jumps on the velour hype and starts to create more inclusive tracksuits!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in this Fashion Nova Curve Velour Tracksuit, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly!

My Favorite Plus Size Winter Coat

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City wears a reversible winter jacket

This morning, I had to run a couple of errands downtown and felt like getting dressed up. I wanted an outfit that I felt confident and comfortable in. Oh, and it also had to keep me warm since Chicago has gotten a little chilly as of late. I think I found my new favorite plus size winter coat.

I have been on the lookout for stylish plus size jackets for this fall and winter season, and I think I finally found one…or two. Hear me out: This Fashion to Figure faux fur coat is reversible and also doubles as a puffer coat, which is perfect for me! Since I live in Chicago, I need a coat that is going to keep me warm but will also look extremely stylish, and I love that I can easily achieve both of those things with this one coat. I created a really comfortable look with Fashion to Figure’s high-waist skinny jeans, paired with a plus size sweater from Lane Bryant. I just got these skinny jeans from Fashion to Figure’s latest denim launch, which has so many cute styles! To elevate the outfit, I decided to embrace the fur side of my new coat. I felt so cozy and luxurious walking around in this all day! Lately, I have been trying different styles of denim because I *heard* that plus-size skinny jeans are going out of style—whatever. I refuse to believe this.. lol. I recently had a run-in with plus size mom jeans, which weren’t the worst, but I truly do love my skinnies! I can’t see myself phasing them out of my closet. So here’s to hoping they don’t go out of style anytime soon. Who’s with me?

If you’re in the market for a plus size winter coat, this one from Fashion to Figure is the best, but I have also included some other plus size winter coats below!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2 in the faux fur coat, which is my usual size, and it fits me well! I am wearing a size 18 in the skinny jeans, which is my usual size, and they fit perfectly. I always feel like Fashion to Figure’s denim runs a little big. I could have sized down for a tighter fit, but I feel like the size 18 is the comfiest fit for me. I am wearing a size 14/16 in the sweater, which is one size smaller than my usual size. I sized down in this garment because I knew it was going to be a looser fit. I love the way it fits me!

Wide Width Boots and Shoes

My Favorite Knee High Wide Calf Boots

Chicago Plus Size Petite Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City wears wide calf knee high boots and fall sweaters

This is a story about how wide calf knee high boots saved me from being in a rut when I got dressed in the morning!

If you’re having a hard time getting dressed right now, you’re not alone!

I never thought I would feel this way about getting dressed. Back in March when quarantine began, I kept telling myself that I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to put on actual clothing—instead of plus size sweatpants. I longed for the days when I could get dressed for work or to go out to dinner with friends, but now that I am doing those things regularly, I rarely ever have a good time putting outfits together—let alone getting dressed. But I am not sure exactly why I now hate getting dressed and become so discouraged as I get ready for almost every occasion, but I have a couple of theories:

  1. I got so used to the convenience and comfort of sweatpants and plus size yoga pants, and now nothing else feels quite as comfortable—obviously.
  2. My body has changed. I have gained weight, which means that my clothes fit a little tighter than usual. I am totally okay with this and I accept these changes. But when clothing doesn’t fit right, it can be discouraging.
  3. I find myself in a constant battle with wanting to wear fashion-forward styles or new and bold trends, but I think my over-optimism about how these trends will translate on my body leave my confidence suffering.

Channeling confidence through clothing and knee high wide calf boots

Being someone who relies on clothing to boost my confidence, I knew that I had to really sit with these feelings and come up with a game plan to get myself excited about getting dressed again. While I have spent years cultivating confidence and breaking away from the mindset and boundaries that told me what I could and couldn’t wear, I realized that I may have to re-build that confidence to get back to the fearless relationship I had with clothing. How would I do this? I went back to the basics.

Instead of trying to shoot for the stars with every look I created, I reached for the basics and foundation pieces that made me feel good. For me, that was a pair of stretchy skinny jeans, a loose-fitting sweater, and a pair of knee high wide calf boots. Like every girl ever, I love Fall specifically for fashion. I mean, what’s not to love about plus size sweaters and wide calf boots?

Creating the perfect plus size outfit

Before I put on the outfit you’re looking at right now, I was so worried about creating the perfect look. I was trying on skirts with tights and ankle boots and sneakers, and I kept piecing together outfits that I hated, which lead to a huge pile of clothes scattered across my bed. I was feeling so uninspired and my confidence plunged. But then, I saw this color-blocked plus size sweater that I got last fall from Chic Soul. To keep things simple, I went for a pair of black plus size skinny jeans—rather than blue wash denim (if you are feeling overwhelmed when you’re creating an outfit or you feel like nothing is looking good, try opting for a monochromatic look).

And to top off the look, I added my favorite knee high boots. Side note: I always worry about how to keep knee high boots up as I wear them throughout the day, but these Riko knee high boots from Eloquii stay put!

But just like that, I finally had on an outfit that was so easy to create but still did wonders for my confidence. Moral of the story: Sometimes it’s all about simplifying things (creating a monochromatic look) and bringing it back down to the basics (like jeans, a sweater, and some boots). Try not to over-complicate things, especially if you have noticed that you have been hard on yourself lately.

SIZING INFO: I am wearing Torrid’s Bombshell Skinny Jean in a size 18, which is my usual size, and it fits perfectly! I am also wearing a sweater from Chic Soul that is no longer in stock, but I have included some similar style of sweaters in the shop widget below!

Well, to be honest, this new denim trend has taken a while for me to get used to.

Do mom jeans look good on plus size women?

I usually stick to plus size skinny jeans that have lots of stretch because I love a tight fit that hugs my curves just right. But I recently became interested in mom jeans when I saw a bunch of thin women wearing them. My first thought was like, “Wow, this is a cool style….it looks great.” I ordered a bunch of mom jeans without considering that they may look different on me because I am plus size.

I make this mistake a lot. And I say “mistake,” because while I am pushing myself to dress more out of my comfort zone and abandon the idea that everything I wear has to be “flattering” on my plus size figure, I still dress for flattery. I think it is just an automatic instinct and reaction that I have when something doesn’t look sleek or fitted on my curves to hate it. And I thank society for that.

Learning how to style mom jeans

So of course, when I got my package of mom jeans, I didn’t love how they looked on me at first. But I spent a couple of days wearing them, and getting used to seeing myself in the style. I finally came around to love these light wash mom jeans from Fashion Nova. They were much more fitted and structured than the distressed mom jeans I first tried, which made me love them even more because they were kind of a perfect mix between skinny jeans and boyfriend jeans.

And since I am working on not dressing for flattery, I will acknowledge that embracing a light wash denim is progress for me because I used to only stick to dark colored denim because it looked more slimming. I think one reason why these mom jeans were more fitted than the average pair is because they virtually had no stretch. They were very tight, and even hard to get on at first, but they stretched out a little more as I wore them.

I topped off the look with this silk bandana top, which was so chic and sexy! The plus size bandana top wasn’t the most practical—especially if you have a larger bust—but I was able to wear it around the house most of the day. I think if you had some fashion tape, you could make this top even more practical by securing it in place. But there is definitely something trendy about these triangle tops, and they also remind me of when I was trying to learn how to make a bandana top when I was a kid in the 90s.

All-in-all, I love this look. The jeans were a bit uncomfortable at first because of the lack of stretch and the simple fact that this is a new style for me. But they are definitely growing on me. If you love this look, too, you can use the code “NATINTHECITY” to get 20% off your next Fashion Nova purchase!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in both the jeans and the top, which is my usual size. The top fit me perfectly, but the jeans were very tight and hard to get on. I would have sized up had I known they weren’t going to be very stretchy.

Fashion Nova sent me this look to review. All opinions are 100% my own!

Plus Size Mom Jeans Outside of My Comfort Zone

Chicag Petite Plus Size Fashion Blogger Natalie in the City reviews boyfriend jeans from Fashion Nova Curve.

As a plus size woman, my experience with clothing has largely taken place outside of my comfort zone—and usually not in a good way. I used to have to fight and squeeze to fit into the clothing I loved, which made me feel super uncomfortable and unworthy. But now, I willingly play outside of my comfort zone a lot more since there are now so many different accessible styles of plus size clothing. This includes the plus size mom jeans I am wearing here.

When it comes to jeans—and most of the clothing I wear in general—I love a tight, curve-hugging fit. So I usually stick to plus size skinny jeans when wearing denim. However, mom jeans and boyfriend jeans are quite the opposite. Similarly to plus size boyfriend jeans,  but I decided to take a chance on these Distressed Mom Jeans from Fashion Nova Curve because I thought they were so cute and versatile. When I first tried them on, I didn’t feel as confident as I usually feel when I slide on a good pair of skinny jeans. But I gave myself some time to wear them around and I twirled around in the mirror once or twice to get adjusted. After wearing them for a couple of hours, I started to like wearing them more—especially after I paired them with this cute Plus Size Wrap Top.

And even though I am still adjusting to the mom jeans life, I kind of went a bit crazy and ordered a whole bunch of mom and boyfriend jeans. So expect to see those on the blog soon! If you’re into the mom jeans trend, I have included a bunch of different styles in the shop widget below for you to check out!

If you love this outfit, you can score it for 20% off with the code “NATINTHECITY” at Fashion Nova!

SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size 2X in both the jeans and the top, which is my usual size. The jeans are meant to fit a little baggy so I think they fit me well! The top fit me perfectly, too. However, I will warn y’all, this wrap top has a very deep plunging neckline. So you may need some fashion tape or a safety pin!
