If you’re wondering what is chub rub and how to stop it, I will share my tried and true methods for protecting my inner thighs!
Summer has to be one of my least favorite seasons for the simple reason that it’s just hard to be a carefree, fun-loving, and fashionable fat girl during the hotter days. Why? One of the biggest things that stand in my way of having the best summer ever is chub rub—and I know every thick, plus size woman can relate.

What is chub rub?
So what is chub rub? It occurs when my thighs rub together when I wear shorts, skirts, and dresses. After maybe 10 minutes of walking, my inner thighs quickly chafe, causing a very irritating and painful rash.
How to Stop Chub Rub
These are some of my favorite products for stopping chub rub and protecting my inner thighs! You can also easily shop my tried and true anti-chafe products on my Amazon storefront!
Anti-Chafe Shorts
Now, I don’t want to spend my summer hiding my thighs in jeans or pants to avoid getting a chub rub rash…I want to wear trendy plus size dresses and skirts like everyone else. So how do I deal with chub rub? Since 2017, I have sworn by Thigh Society’s anti chafing underwear. And I STILL wear my first pair—The Original—from 2017 at least once a week both by themselves and under dresses and skirts. Yeah, the quality is that good!
But since I got my first pair of Thigh Society anti chafing shorts, the brand has evolved to offer a variety of shorts that suit every woman’s seasonal and wardrobe needs. And I just got to try out some of the newer styles. While I stand by the brand’s “Original Short,” my second favorite has to be The Cooling anti chafe shorts, which I am wearing in the color beige. These shorts are very lightweight and sheer and they feel like practically nothing. I love wearing these on the hotter days, but they will also work great in fall if I am wearing a thicker sweater skirt.
I also got to try out The Staple anti chafe shorts, which I am wearing in black. I chose a 9″ inseam for these shorts so that I could wear these into the fall under longer dresses and skirts. That’s another reason why I love Thigh Society, they give you a variety of options for the color, length, and coverage. These shorts are breathable and comfortable, and most importantly, they keep me safe from chub rub and chafing.
Anti-Chafe Sticks

I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention anti-chafe sticks and balms since they are also such a great option to prevent chub rub, but I will always opt for shorts over a balm that may feel too greasy or sticky and will likely wear off after a couple of hours.
Anti-Chafing Thigh Bands
Anti-chafing thigh bands are also a great option to combat chub rub, but they often roll down and fold after minutes of walking. But I also love to wear mini skirts, which presents a challenge to my preference of wearing shorts underneath. However, Thigh Society now offers anti-chafing slip shorts with a 5″ inseam, allowing me to wear a mini skirt without the shorts showing. SIZING INFO: I am wearing a size XL/2XL, which is my usual size at Thigh Society. I usually wear a size 18 or 2X on bottom!
Let’s have a great summer!
If you are tired of getting chub rub and missing out on fun summer styles, try anti-chafing slip shorts to find some relief! These shorts truly bring me peace of mind when I am planning out my outfits for the week. Knowing that I will not be in pain while wearing my favorite skirts and dresses is a huge anxiety reliever, and it actually gives me hope that I can enjoy summer to the fullest! While summer may be coming to a close, anti-chafing slip or bike shorts are also perfect for fall to protect us from chub rub when we style our favorite sweater dresses and keep us warm during the chilly days.
